Temporary Immortality

Ever since living organisms occupy this world (I believe in life on other worlds too, but that's another story), the main goal of those organisms is survival. Simple creatures like rodents, fish, birds and mammals just instinctively keep their species alive by breeding like rabbits. But for more complex, intelligent life-forms that's not enough.

We want to be remembered

People want to be remembered as an individual. Gifted people make a name for themselves by either inventing something cool, irritating people, being beautiful, conquering the world or whatever. The intelligently challenged or people with less exceptional talents spray graffiti, make websites or just breed like rabbits.

The Internet is a perfect place to immortalize oneself without much effort. Sign a few guestbooks, get a free homepage, post a few messages on a newsgroup, spam your and your friends's facebooks, twitter like a hummingbird on speed and your name will begin showing up while ego-surfing.
